Who We Are
The Whole Dyslexic Society is a non-profit charitable organization #85219 0933.
We are a group of dedicated volunteers who formed a non-profit organization, to promote understanding and awareness of dyslexia, and to support the alternatives for coping with the challenges that occur.
The 'gift of dyslexia' cannot and should not be cured; it is far too valuable. Using methods developed by Ronald D Davis and the Davis Dyslexia Association International, the challenges associated with the 'gift of dyslexia' can be corrected, allowing the talents that accompany the 'gift' to flourish. We also promote Davis Learning Strategies which reach all children in the K-3 Classroom, ensuring the challenges do not arise in the first place.
Through fundraising for prevention, outreach, bursaries and a learning centre, The Whole Dyslexic Society enables individuals to discover their talents, resolve the difficulties and realize that learning can be, and should be, FUN!
Our uniqueness lies in the fact that we only support methods that reach the cause of the challenge, not symptomatic methods. If the reason why the problems exists is removed, the problem ceases to exist. We only support methods that allow the individual to learn in the way they were born to learn, not in trying to make them learn as others think they should. We acknowledge that all individuals innately love learning, and that learning is a whole process undertaken by whole human beings.
We exist because
- there is a need for an holistic approach
- too many individuals are being forced to become sound learners when they process and learn in a non-verbal thinking mode
- there is so much conflicting information, causing so much misunderstanding
- there are so many myths concerning so-called empirical/scientific proof
- there are so many out-dated stereo-typical definitions of dyslexia
- there is a need to provide finance to ensure families have the choice they need
- much suffering is caused from labels that begin with 'dis' 'dys' and those individuals need to know they can learn, they are not disabled, it is the system that teaches them who are disabled by a lack of understanding
- there is a need to teach every child in the way they were born to learn
