Bursaries
The Whole Dyslexic Society believes that causal correction methods should be available to all regardless of income and will provide bursaries to further that end.
One-third of the population are predominately sound-based thinkers, one-third predominately image-based thinkers, and one-third are happy to be able to do both. There is a continuum from never having an internal dialogue to never seeing a mental image.
For the one-third who think predominately in an image-based mode, the present sound-based education system presents difficulties. The remedial methods available in schools have their foundations in the sound-based system as do the special private schools.
We have many enquiries from families on low incomes, single parents, often with no financial support system, who have heard about our programs and are not able to afford them. We have enquiries from young people who have dropped out of school and do not wish to become unemployable.
Therefore, at this moment in time, we are asking independent individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations to donate to our bursary fund. The bursary will never be complete; there has to be some input by the individual and/or their family, but it will be available to help dyslexic individuals reach their full potential.
Testimonials - WDS Bursary Awards
Before The Program
A: I would like to thank all the people who made it possible for my daughter, and other children challenged by dyslexia, who have families in similar positions of financial hardship, to be able to still get the help from the Davis program. I know it took a community of people who dedicated a lot of time and effort to raise the money allotted to us and to organize the process for determining who would be awarded the help.
I would like to give back to the foundation in any way I can and I believe there will be ways that become obvious as I become more familiar with the effort to help reach others in a similar position to my daughter. I think that my life will actually turn in a new direction as I become more involved. I have a strong desire to make a difference too. I also believe that my daughter's life will benefit greatly from the program and I am very excited about that.
N: was also excited by the news, but I don't know if she fully grasps just how much this is going to help her life. It has been a bit of a mystery to me also. I read about and hear about how much it has done for other children, but it still seems like a dream that it will also help Nicole as much as it has helped many children like her. But I believe very much in the sincerity of the mothers I have spoken to, and I also have never been more impressed with someone then I was that day when I listened to Ron Davis at the gift of dyslexia seminar. What an exceptional man! I think that Ron Davis is not just an exceptionally brilliant man who has overcome almost insurmountable obstacles through an extraordinary strength of spirit and character, but that he is a very intuitive man who is tapping into something powerful. I feel truly blessed to have been given some insights from his wisdom and to have been linked to some really amazing people because of the program he created.
Thanks so much for giving us back hope about our lives.
P.S.
N: offered her entire bank account which has $200 from birthday money savings and we decided that she would contribute half. I feel that her making the $100 contribution herself is a great idea and shows her dedication. It was entirely her own idea to offer this, and I am so proud of her.
One Week After The Program
(the giving back has started...)
Today I had 15 minutes to talk to N's class about her gift and told them a bit about the program. First, I explained about people being primarily word thinkers, picture thinkers or a mixture of both. Then I explained the 'gift' part of being mostly a picture thinking person, and I told them about some famous people who have 'the gift'. Then I taught them about seeing things from different perspectives vs two dimensionally and let them know how Nicole can perceive things.
I demonstrated how that can cause difficulty when doing school work and demonstrated what a "P" would look like if you looked at it from an 'upside down' perception. I let them know that N has been training her mind's eye to see things from the two dimensional perspective when needed and showed how that would look.
I showed them a couple samples of N's clay work and explained why she was doing it. Her teacher would like me to come back and talk more about the program. N was very delighted with my talk today. She helped me demonstrate the Koosh ball exercises so that we could show the class what she will be doing before she starts her school work, and that if there is anyone who would like to assist her they will know how. The kids were very interested and a lot of her peers came up after to compliment her clay art and to tell me what kind of thinker they are.
M:
I indeed want to share a few thoughts with you! First off I want to say an amazing thank you. You have given "R" and our entire family an amazing gift. I do feel that we were touched by angels when we were guided to you and your wonderful work.
I was a little concerned last week, while watching "R" at our shared sessions. I wondered if he was taking it seriously - he seemed disengaged, almost uninterested. My concerns were put to rest when my husband came to meet us. It was very apparent that "R" had been missing his Dad. But more than that, within seconds of reunion hugs, "R" had pulled out his backpack and all its contents. The doubts that I had about his engagement immediately disappeared! He spoke at great length about all aspects of the program: Orientation, Release, his Dial, Sweep Spell, Trigger Words and of course the clay. He was telling all about the clay models that he had made and their meanings etc. Then he recited the alphabet backwards - something that he is very proud of and does quite regularly now! Every time he does it people's eyes bug out of their head - apparently it is not a common skill!
Again tonight, another break through. We have taken a break since Friday to enjoy Easter with family, but tonight we thought we would at least do a little reading. "R" got out his blue reading card and a book (a chapter book - not Dr. Zeuss) and started to read. He was whipping through the pages, reading so well and only had to spell out a couple of words (which he was able to read the next time he came to them!). When he finished I just looked at him and said, "I can't believe how well you are reading now!" I looked over at his Dad, who was shaking his head, "Unbelievable," was the word that came out of his mouth. Before we came down we were reading Dr. Zeuss stories and most times those were too much for him. The thought that he just picked up a chapter book like no big deal brings tears to my eyes. I know that we still have a lot of work to do but just to see the immediate results is absolutely astonishing!
I will end this email with a few quotes from "R":
I asked him tonight how he felt about his time with you.
First off, he gave the two thumbs up sign.
- "I love to read now"
- "I am not afraid to read anymore. I don't get nervous and I don't make very many mistakes."
Again, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. This little boy's path changed this past week. "R" is going to do great things in his life and you have had a part in shaping that!
